Jean Klebs
Mixed media artist/photographer.
I received my BFA in sculpture from California Collage of the Arts in Oakland, Ca.
My greatest love and influence has always been photography from the time I had a small brownie camera in my hands. As a child I would sit on the floor and look at LIFE and LOOK magazines by the hour.
I was captivated by the photography I found there…
Margaret Bourke-White, Bill Ray,
John Dominis, Alfred Esisenstaedt and many more.
They taught me how to look, how to see.
I moved to New York City in 1979.
My interest in photography continued to grow, and I became a collector. For many years I did conservation framing for artist, museums and galleries. I was able to meet a group of photographers that had a huge influence on my own work. Richard Avedon, Chris Callis, Robert Mapplethorpe, Joel Peter Witkin to name a few.
Photography has always been my passion and my elixir.
