Lillian Ben-Zion, née Dubin
(New York City 1913-New York City 2012)
Lillian Dubin was born into a Jewish immigrant family. She was a storyteller at Greenwich House, where she met the artist Ben-Zion. She was an exhibiting artist and later became an elementary school teacher on the Lower East Side.
For more than five decades, Lillian and Ben-Zion shared a life devoted to creativity and art. Following Ben-Zion’s death, Lillian made a decision not to return to her own art. Instead, she devoted herself to the preservation of Ben-Zion’s legacy by archiving, documenting, and writing about his work, and maintaining the remarkable home/studio they shared as a place to welcome and inspire art lovers and professionals.
